There are many decisions involved in choosing tiles, and at Trini tile, we know it can be a lot. Colour, size, and shape are obvious factors to consider, but the finish is also a big one. It can affect not just the look but the functionality of a room. Here are a few key things to consider.

Want it bigger or brighter? Consider polished

Polished or glossy tiles can make smaller rooms appear larger. It essentially mimics the effect of adding a mirror. The reflection opens up the space making it a sound design choice for smaller or narrower rooms hallways and bathrooms.

For the same reason, glossy tiles are also great for brightening a room. In spaces with low natural light, a glossy tile will maximize the available which makes it a good option for flooring in a basement for example.

High traffic or tough to clean? Matte’s a better bet

Matte tiles have better traction which makes them better suited to high-traffic. Water, humidity, and steam, can also make polished tiles slippery, so if this is a key concern in your bathrooms, kitchen, or laundry room, matte tiles are a good alternative.

Matte tiles also do a better job of concealing smudges, stains, or water droplets. They’re low maintenance, requiring less frequent cleanings.

It also comes down to your desired aesthetic. Matte tiles are great for achieving natural or rustic look, and new versions can mimic the appearance of wood and cement.
