Are your tiles looking a bit worse for wear? Tiles in shared spaces tend to see more traffic than ones in your bathroom but in either case, you’ll want to stay on top of upkeep to avoid permanent damage.

One of the most important ways to keep your tiles in great shape is to clean up any spills as soon as they happen. Getting to it while the spill is fresh gives you a better chance of being able to clean it off without using harsh chemicals or scrubs.

In terms of regular cleaning, your floors should be swept or vacuumed at least once or twice a week to get rid of any debris that can dull the finish. Mop with a gentle tile cleaner and warm water every two weeks in high traffic areas and once a month in less-used areas. While mopping, make sure to change the solution every so often to avoid leaving a cloudy film on your floors.

A deep cleaning, including grout, should be done at least twice a year. The key to grout cleaning is a good cleaning solution and a lot of patience. Use a stiff brush and some elbow grease to scrub away the build-up on your grout and restore it to its original brightness.

With this proper maintenance, you’ll be left with tile floors that look as good as new.
