Organizing and decluttering your home should be more than just a temporary change – it should be a lifestyle change. With these simple storage hacks, you can stay within budget and feel like a professional organizer. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the before and after results of your decluttered kitchen, laundry room or bathroom.

The first step in maintaining a clean and tidy room is going through everything you have and really thinking about what items you need. One of the best ways to do this is playing the ‘Keep or Throw’ game. Ask yourself, “when was the last time I used this item?” From there, decide whether to keep it or toss it away. This will help you to optimize your space, and allow you to show off your newly tiled wall and flooring installed by Trini Tile.

Once you have gotten rid of the things that no longer serve you, the next step is organizing what you decided to keep. Here’s where to start your inexpensive home organization project.

KITCHEN:

Tip 1 - Glasses

Alternate stemmed wine glasses and champagne glasses by placing them both upright and flipped upside down. This will allow you to fit more glassware in one cabinet, optimizing the space required to store them.

Tip 2 – Door Rack

A door rack is ideal in your pantry if you have a lot of snacks or canned foods. Try arranging the items by colour coordinating or separating by the type of food; i.e pasta, granola bars etc. A rack is also a practical solution for sorting spices and seasonings, making it easier for you to find what you’re looking for.

Tip 3 – Hang Pots & Pans

Save cabinet space by hanging your pots and pans overhead. Installing a few small hooks on your wall will get rid of big and bulky items on your countertops and in your cupboards. Another solution and fun DIY project is putting up a pegboard in your kitchen to hang your pots and pans.

LAUNDRY ROOM:

Tip 1 – Folding Station

Clear off the top of your washer and dryer, to create space for you to fold your clothes after each load of laundry. This will encourage you to put away your clothes quicker, instead of letting them pile up in a basket.

Tip 2 – Downsize Bottles

A good way to clear the clutter in your laundry room is eliminating the clunky detergent bottles from your shelves. Use jars or small soap bottles for easy handling and refill them when you start to run low on supplies.

Tip 3 – Lint Bin

Sometimes having a garbage bin in a small space can make the room appear crowded or messy, and going back and forth to another room to throw things away can be frustrating. Grab a small container or bag to hang on the wall so you have somewhere to empty the dryer lint. This will also help to free up floor space for the illusion of a larger room.

BATHROOM:

Tip 1 – Roll Towels

A quick tip to save space is to roll your bath towels opposed to folding them flat and stacking on top of each other. Not only is this efficient for organizing but you’ll feel like you’re at a spa, giving off a relaxed and serene atmosphere.

Tip 2 – Label Drawers

There’s nothing worse than when you’re running late for a function and can’t find your hairbrush. Set up a system where you have your hair supplies stored on the bottom and makeup up top, or vice versa to make getting ready quick and easy.

Tip 3 - Toilet Paper Tower

Have some fun with how you store your extra toilet paper rolls by stacking them in a pyramid above the toilet or on a shelf in your bathroom. Another more portable option is getting a small bar cart to hold spare toilet paper, bath soaps and linens.
